In addition to being a great pilot Ian was so informative and passionate about the wonders of the Big Island from the air. The flowing lava is no longer visible from either the air or the sea but we were able to see the steam as the lava entered the water from beneath the surface. What a magnificent ride! Pilot Ian who is a retired Army helicopter pilot with many years of experience, got us as close as he could to the caldera of the volcano where which has grown enormously and the lava levels in the caldera have dropped. We took the Sunrise helicopter ride over the Big Island with Pilot Ian. I will be recommending them to all of my family and friends who ever travel to the big island. All in all, this is a great company with a great team that truly cares about what they do.
He also gave us great recommendations for later like the observatory at the top of the mountain.
He took us to the best spots and was also able to show us the lava tress which were really cool. He was a great pilot with a southern Texas accent that was truly comforting for our first helicopter ride. THANK YOU DEREK! Chris was new but never missed a beat. He even returned my hat that I left in the shuttle after we were dropped off. He new everything about the island and even gave us a few recommendations for later on. I can't speak highly enough about both of these two people. Yesterday was our rescheduled day and we couldn't have been happier! Derek was our guide and Chris was our pilot.
Our first attempt was rescheduled after bad weather. My Girlfriend and I went to take a Helicopter tour that came highly reccomended by Hilton.
